Coffee is one of the most widely consumed beverages and most internationally traded commodities in the world. The two most important varieties of coffee plants are Arabica and Robusta; ~60% of the coffee produced worldwide is Arabica and ~40% is Robusta. Arabica coffee is grown at a high elevation of 600 to 2000 meters. This plant is delicate and require cool subtropical climates. Arabica beans tend to have a smooth, sweet taste, with tones of chocolate or sugar, fruits and berries. Robusta coffee beans, on the other hand, are hardier plants, capable of growing well at lower altitudes. Robusta beans have a stronger, harsher and more bitter taste and contain twice as much caffeine as Arabica beans. They are valued especially in espressos for their deep flavour and good crema.
